Distal clavicle excision is a minimally-invasive procedure used to treat impingement in the shoulder. This procedure helps to relieve pain and loss of motion in the shoulder from arthritis or impingement. Shoulder impingement is a painful condition in which the space between structures in a joint narrows, causing parts to rub or pinch that normally would not, which is very painful for the patient. During the procedure, the end of the clavicle closest to the acromion in the shoulder is removed to allow pain-free movement of the joint.
